On February 11, an event themed “Support China’s fight against  and promoting Nepal-China People-to-People Connectivity,” organized by the Trans-Himalaya Development Center in Nepal, was held at the City Hall of Kathmandu. Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Hou Yanqi attended the event and delivered a speech. Around 400 guests from China and Nepal, including Nepali Minister of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation Padma Kumari Aryal, former Nepali Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sujata Koirala, and former Nepali Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Ananda Pokharel, attended the event.

Ambassador Hou introduced the measures that the Chinese government has taken so far to control the epidemic of novel coronavirus pneumonia. She said that China and Nepal are friendly neighbors who always help each other. Since the outbreak of the epidemic, the Nepalese government has donated 100,000 medical masks, and the Embassy of Nepal in China, non-governmental organizations and the Nepalese people have given China firm support. We are encouraged and deeply moved, she added.

Guests from Nepal expressed their sincere condolences to infected patients and their relatives, and expressed their high respect to the Chinese medical workers who are fighting on the front line. They said that Nepal and China are friends and brothers who shoulder difficulties together. After the earthquake in Nepal in 2015, Chinese friends were the first to offer assistance to the Nepalese people. Now that China spares no effort to fight the epidemic, we must fight alongside our Chinese friends. This outbreak is a global problem and no country should stand by and watch. We have seen that the Chinese government has adopted the most strict and decisive preventive measures and has achieved initial results. This protects not only the Chinese people, but also the world as a whole, which fully reflects China’s role as a responsible major country.

During the event, video about China’s assistance in the earthquake in Nepal was played. Paintings by Nepalese students for supporting China’s battle were displayed. Renowned Nepalese singers and poets also gave performances.
