How does China’s experience inspire other countries? Political party leaders from 11 countries including Brazil, Venezuela, Bangladesh and Nepal exchanged views with Chinese scholars in Beijing about Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era from perspectives of politics, society, economics, ecology, international cooperation and cultural exchange. They opined that China’s experience is worth studying and that the Chinese philosophy on development fosters peace, stability and common prosperity globally.
Guo Yezhou, vice minister of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC)
Delivering a keynote speech at the CPC in Dialogue with World Political Parties High-Level Meeting, Chinese President Xi Jinping, also general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, elaborated on the significance, path and political parties’ responsibility in building a community with a shared future for mankind and building a beautiful world from a strategic and long-term perspective. It shows that the CPC, with its commitment to world peace, common development and exchange and mutual learning among civilizations, is contributing China’s wisdom and solutions to address challenges facing mankind.
Feedback from delegates at the meeting showed that Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era demands global attention. The country steadfastly adheres to a path of development suitable to China’s national conditions while underlining respect for the rights of every country to choose how they develop based on their own national conditions. We have always considered development the master key to solving any problem and presented a new option to countries and nations who want to accelerate their development while preserving independence. With a people-centered philosophy of development, we focus not only on enlarging the development pie, but also on distributing it fairly—a common goal of many world political parties. We innovate through the entire process of our work and hope it will inspire other political parties to ponder and achieve innovation.
The CPC will not “import” foreign models of development nor “export” the Chinese model, but we do hope that world political parties learn from each other and every country chooses to develop in a way that best fits its own national conditions.
Jin Nuo, secretary of the CPC Committee of Renmin University of China
The aspiration of the CPC to “seek happiness for the Chinese people, rejuvenation for the Chinese nation, and peace and prosperity for mankind” is thoroughly embedded in Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. The initiative to build a community with a shared future for mankind is a major theoretical innovation that is also practically significant. The Thought offers the key to understanding China’s path for development in the future, the key for developing countries to solving emerging problems and the key to addressing common challenges facing the world.
Li Junru, former vice president of Party School of the Central Committee of the CPC
China has plenty of development experience to share with other developing countries. First, China steadfastly adheres to that development is an absolute principle and the top priority. Second, China has designed a step-by-step development strategy built of five-year plans for economic and social development as well as annual plans, which in concert have produced stable progress. Third, China is committed to a people-centered philosophy of development and the pursuance of innovative, coordinated, green, and open development that benefits everyone and improves the lives of its people.
He Jiankun, former executive vice president of Tsinghua University
Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era highlights new development concepts. Ideas on changing development momentum with innovation-driven development, transforming economic growth patterns with green development, and replacing the high-carbon development model featuring extensive growth and heavy resource dependence are clearly valuable globally. At the same time, the Thought calls for addressing climate change with strategies of sustainable development and emphasizes the building of an ecological civilization to promote overwhelmingly positive economic growth that enhances people’s livelihoods, improves the environment and reduces carbon dioxide emissions. At the same time it presents strategies to meet the people’s ever-growing needs for a better life alongside the pleasant ecological environment. It attaches importance to the protection of the Earth’s ecological security while striving to build a more prosperous and beautiful China.
Wang Wen, professor and executive dean of Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies at Renmin University of China
One of the most significant aspects of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era is its contributions to development, peace and security. This effort has produced widespread well-being and dividends for world civilization and peace. The CPC pledged to rid the entire Chinese nation of poverty by 2020, ten years earlier than the target set by the 2030 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. More importantly, China aims to basically achieve socialist modernization by 2035 and become a great modern socialist country by 2050. China’s path is one from poverty to prosperity. If China succeeds in all of its goals, its experience will become the reference point for the world in terms of politics, economic development, cultural exchange and international cooperation.
He Yafei, former vice foreign minister of China and senior research fellow with Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies at Renmin University of China
The global governance concepts contained in Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era carry extensive significance worldwide. First, these ideas were proposed on the basis of China’s successful domestic governance. China has realized a transformation from poverty to prosperity and aims to become even stronger in the future. Second, these concepts were put forward against the backdrop of the CPC adapting Marxism to the Chinese context, fluidly addressing the country’s ever-developing situations and national conditions of each unique era. Third, the concepts we see now were proposed by the CPC and the Chinese people against the background of today’s fast-changing world. They pinpoint direction and provide guidance for people to address increasingly complicated global challenges.
Luan Jianzhang, director of the Research Office of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee
I believe that the greatest international significance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era is found in the notion to “remain true to our original aspiration and keep our mission firmly in mind” which has been reiterated by Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee. The original aspiration and mission of the CPC is to seek happiness for the Chinese people, rejuvenation for the Chinese nation, and peace and development for mankind. I think we’ve reached mutual understandings on three points at this forum. First, the world today has entered a new era. The principal contradiction facing the world is between unbalanced and inadequate development and the people’s ever-growing needs for a better life. Second, Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era is a rich body of work. It contains experience in realms ranging from poverty alleviation to ecological protection. It contains philosophies, so it is both a world view and a methodology. It also contains blueprints and systems, such as how to realize modernization and socialism. Third, it is very important for China to strengthen exchange with international political parties. During this forum, leaders of various foreign political parties have showed deep understanding of China, General Secretary Xi’s report at the 19th CPC National Congress, and Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. The CPC should also strengthen communication, deepen understanding and learn from other countries.
Renato Casagrande, general secretary of the Brazilian Socialist Party
China has a huge population, and now it is the world’s second largest economy. The 19th CPC National Congress is tremendously significant for both China and the world. Brazil has been paying close attention to China’s successful experience. China has blazed a development path suitable for its national conditions, and its achievements on poverty reduction are especially worth studying. Since China implemented reform and opening up in 1978, it has lifted an impressive number of people out of poverty. Today in the world, great wealth is in the hands of so few. Better distribution of social wealth has become a common challenge for us all.
Adan Chavez, vice president of international affairs of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela
“The era is the mother of thought; practice is the fount of theory. If we respond to the call of our times and have the courage to uphold truth and correct errors, the Marxism of 21st century China will, without a doubt, emanate more mighty, more compelling power of truth,” General Secretary Xi Jinping remarked in his report at the 19th CPC National Congress. China’s experience has generated hope for socialists around the world. While the West is clinging to neoliberalism, China took its own approach which has been feasible and practical. We support the growth scheme that the CPC has planned for China because it strives to build a better world and guarantee the people’s well-being. Domestically, China strives to become a great modern socialist country that is prosperous, strong, democratic, culturally advanced, harmonious and beautiful. Internationally, China plays a positive role as a major country that promotes global peace and stability.
Rocio Alfaro Molina, vice general secretary of the Broad Front of Costa Rica
Different societies face different contradictions, which demand specific targeted solutions. There is no single universal ideal development mode for all of the world. We must find our own road suitable to our own national conditions. Marxism emphasizes adjusting measures to local conditions, which is also shown in Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. China crafted its development plan according to its own national conditions and major social contradiction. We need to learn more about our own country to better develop theories to guide us in the right direction and help us enact the right measures to change society.
Marko Vidakovic, vice president of the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats of Bosnia and Herzegovina
When President Xi Jinping visited my country, he met with our party leaders and emphasized China’s efforts in global cooperation, especially common development with developing countries. Our people and the Chinese people jointly launched several infrastructure projects. Our cooperation has been practical rather than an empty promise. Bosnia and Herzegovina will actively participate in the Belt and Road Initiative, which was proposed by Xi, because it will produce tremendous benefits for the countries along the routes and even the whole world. The prosperity and development of humankind is our common aspiration.
Dilip Barua, general secretary of the Communist Party of Bangladesh (Marxist-Leninist)
Corruption not only erodes parties but causes instability in societies. President Xi Jinping’s anti-corruption campaign in China won extensive support and public trust, which has laid a solid foundation for the country’s stability. Xi emphasized that strengthening Party governance is key to the success of the CPC, and strict Party discipline penetrates every aspect of the Party’s work.
General Secretary Xi Jinping has brought understanding of socialism to new heights by pinpointing every aspect of development including economics, politics, culture, society and ecology. Under his leadership, China will continue implementing the four-pronged comprehensive strategy. All these ideas mirror General Secretary Xi Jinping’s political wisdom. Guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, we are seeing China become stronger and contribute its approach to solve problems facing the world.
Sujata Koirala, member of the Central Committee of Nepali Congress and former deputy Prime Minister of Nepal
The international community needs positive energy in favor of globalization right now. Just at the right time, General Secretary Xi Jinping proposed inclusive development that benefits the whole world, encouraging new methods to realize fairer trade, more effective investment and sustainable development.
The Belt and Road Initiative proposed by General Secretary Xi has gained global support by creating a new platform for innovative development, win-win cooperation and peaceful coexistence. By improving interconnection with other countries, China is endeavoring to share its economic development fruits. The Initiative will help address the issue of imbalanced development, which is important for both China and the world. Peace, stability and development are the common aspirations of people of all countries.
