Li Pengde visited the Beijing Changier Education Foundation

On February 14, 2025, Mr. Li Pengde, Director of the United Nations Global Geospatial Information Knowledge and Innovation Centre (hereinafter referred to as the "UN-GGKIC"), was invited to visit the Beijing Changier Education Foundation. As an organization with special consultative status at the United Nations Economic and Social Council, the Beijing Changier Education Foundation, together with its president, Ms. Zhang Yinjun, and all the staff, warmly welcomes Director Li Pengde.
During the discussion, Director Li Pengde stated that the Earth is humanity's mother and our shared home. The education of the youth, especially by mothers, is vital to the future of humanity. He mentioned that at the Summit of the Future held last September, the heads of member states jointly adopted the Pact for the Future and its annexes: the Global Digital Compact and Declaration on Future Generations, which particularly emphasized the crucial role of youth and future generations in future development. This theme is closely aligned with UN-GGKIC's core focus area: "Knowledge and Innovation." Against this backdrop, UN-GGKIC and the Beijing Changier Education Foundation have ample opportunities for cooperation.
President Zhang Yinjun stated that, as an organization with special consultative status at the United Nations Economic and Social Council, the Beijing Changier Education Foundation is responsible for providing all possible support to UN-GGKIC and actively promoting cooperation between the two parties. She highlighted that the Foundation has meticulously reviewed the outcome documents of the Summit of the Future, with a particular focus on the Declaration on Future Generations, which notes that "the decisions, actions and inactions of present generations have an intergenerational multiplier effect, and therefore resolving to ensure that present generations act with responsibility towards safeguarding the needs and interests of future generations." This spirit aligns closely with the Foundation's proposed "Heritage of Family and Nation -- Maternal Love Education Innovation System Construction Project" in its purpose. Since 2016, the Beijing Changier Education Foundation has been hosting the "Mothers and Children Reading to Protect the Earth" public welfare event during World Earth Day and World Book and Copyright Day for several consecutive years, actively promoting education through maternal love.
During the visit, President Zhang Yinjun accompanied Director Li Pengde on a tour of the headquarters of the Changier Education Foundation in Beijing. Vice President Xing Haiyan reported to Director Li Pengde on the Foundation's achievements over the past 20 years, while Honorary President Gao Shuqin outlined the implementation of the Maternal Love Education Project and shared the vision for future initiatives. Director Li Pengde had a cordial conversation with the Changier staff, showing concern for their work and living conditions, and concluded by taking a group photo with all the employees.
The United Nations Global Geospatial Information Knowledge and Innovation Centre, part of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, is the first directly affiliated office of the UN Secretariat established in China, situated in Deqing County, Huzhou, Zhejiang Province. Mr. Li Pengde was the inaugural director of the institution.
