Nepal’s Fifth National Photojournalism Award Held in Lalitpur

On April 26, the Fifth National Photojournalism Award ceremony was held in Lalitpur, Nepal.
Devraj Ghimire, Speaker of Nepal’s House of Representatives, and Deepak Khadka, Minister for Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation, attended the event and presented awards to the winners.
The award was initiated by Nepal’s National Forum of Photojournalists (NFPJ). Established in 1997, NFPJ is a national-level organization for professional photojournalists in Nepal, with over 500 active members.
According to NFPJ, this year’s photojournalism awards were presented in eight categories, including daily life, sports, women, tourism and culture, economics, politics, entertainment, and freelance photojournalism. Additionally, regional awards were presented to photojournalists from seven provinces across Nepal.

During the ceremony, senior photojournalist Devendra Man Singh was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award for his lifelong contributions to photojournalism.
The ceremony was held on National Photojournalism Day, commemorating the publication of Nepal’s first news photograph by Gorkhapatra National Daily on April 26, 1927, which depicted a girl operating a spinning wheel. This milestone marked the beginning of photojournalism in the country.
