Despite the hectic schedule and security concerns, Chinese President Xi Jinping threw a rare--and almost impromptu--press conference at the end of the two-day G20 Summit in Hangzhou today.

Attended by scores of foreign journalists and Chinese media, the press corps showed a sizeable presence of African journalists, an unusual phenomenon at the previous summits.

Xi said the G20 has set the course for a peaceful and stable international environment. The engine of growth would be reignited through innovation. There would be a new era of connection between things and people in a digitalized economy.

The group, whose presidency is assumed by China, will work to improve the global economy and financial governance. International cooperation will be deepened to combat corruption and tax evasion and enhance energy efficiency.

International trade and investment will be revitalized as key engines of growth and an inclusive global value chain will be pursued.

The G20 will deliver benefits to the whole world as Xi said it belongs not only to the member countries but the whole world.

Xi also said that it is the first time the G20 has agreed as a group to assist in industrialization in Africa and least developed countries.
